Australia - December 2017

We’re back to Australia !

No travel in December, just relaxing at the Sunshine Coast (Mooloolaba) and in Brisbane (Fortitude Valley).

Back in Australia means slow internet again: a 3G connection is faster than most Wi-Fi’s here !!!

Our going-out recommendations for Brisbane are: 

Cloudland has two distinct highly sophisticated bars with several magnificent and colorful boutique booths, a spiral extra-large staircase, majestic chandeliers, a huge dance floor and an Italian restaurant but you don’t go there for the food or drinks … what is exceptional and unique here is the ambiance: the decoration is very opulent, extra luxurious and luscious, somewhat kitsch but it’s an experience to remember … This place just blew our mind away!!!

Totally different is the bar next door: Wolly Mammoth Alehouse! Dark, modern, unadorned with awful loud live music but with an incredible selection of craft beers on tap (the largest choice in QLD). If you like good beers, then this is the place to go for a drink, otherwise quite crappy. Not far away, you can also find a good selection of craft beers at Bloodhound Corner Bar.

A must for excellent craft beer is the Newstead Brewing Company. Located in a side street, a very modest garage door provides the access to the brewery: on the left the bar, on the right the brewing shiny steel tanks! A combination of bus and artistic flare gives the site a wonderfully tranquil, comfortable vibe with lashings of industrial robustness. Our preferred beers were the Toowong Dubbel, Two to the Valley IPA and The Love In DIPA.

Savile Row is an opulent speakeasy-style vintage lounge bar hidden behind a closed orange door. Open the door and step into a darkened foyer to enter a mysterious dark wood parlor lit by candles ... a gorgeous crystal chandelier overhangs the bar ... 400 whiskeys, 60 rums, 50 tequilas and 40 gins are waiting to be mixed into 200 cocktails. A personalized cocktail is also possible ... we asked for a cocktail containing rum, cream, ginger, passion fruit and some spices ... awesome!

Finally, the Eleven Rooftop Bar, a must for its sophisticated setting and the most amazing view over Brisbane's skyline.
